I’m Joseph Cockrell, a communications leader with over two decades of experience guiding organizations through opportunity and challenge. From my early career as a journalist and broadcast news producer to senior leadership roles in higher education and corporate communications, I am known for delivering clear, consistent, and compelling messages that resonate with diverse stakeholders. As a trusted advisor, I have guided organizations through complex reputational challenges and protected public trust under pressure.
I offer a rare combination of executive leadership and specialized expertise. With a background in journalism and a Master’s in Strategic Communications, I know how to craft a narrative that resonates. As a current law student pursuing my J.D., I also possess the critical ability to navigate the complex intersection of public opinion and legal liability.
As Director of Communications and Media Relations at International Education Corporation (IEC), I shape the voice of institutions like Sage Truck Driving Schools, United Education Institute and UEI College, aligning communication strategies with business goals to deliver measurable impact.
My career spans leadership roles at other notable organizations including the University of Phoenix, University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, Brandman University, UNLV, and Marquette University, where I’ve driven innovation across digital, social, and traditional media.

My passion for storytelling extends beyond my professional communications work. My original screenplay Before the Fence has received numerous recognition on the awards circuit, reflecting a creative practice that has always informed how I think about narrative, character, and consequence.
